Where Are My Dirtbag Mamas At?

How do I make adventure mom friends?

Seriously, I’m asking. If you know the answer to that question, please tell me. I’ve tried it all. Facebook groups, Instagram networks, the Peanut app, etc. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of adventurous moms out there, they’re just not in my area. So, short of putting out a personal ad, I’m out of ideas.

Actually, that’s not a bad idea.

First, we need to establish a set of acronyms and definitions.

  • BM: Boy Mom
  • GM: Girl Mom
  • BGM: Boy & Girl Mom
  • IN: Infant (0-18 months) Mom
  • TD: Toddler (19 months – 4 years) Mom
  • LK: Little Kid (5-7 years) Mom
  • BK: Big Kid (8-12 years) Mom
  • TN: Teen (13-18 years) Mom
  • Type 1 Adventure: Paved or groomed gravel trails, close to established town, day trips, field trips, parks, museums, playdates, etc.
  • Type 2 Adventure: Hikes and adventures of mild-moderate difficulty/length, day trips within 2 hours of established town, kayaking/SUPing, possible car camping, shitshow-patience-stretching possibilities but will remember fondly after several days and want to repeat.
  • Type 3 Adventure: Hikes, adventures and camping of moderate-difficult nature including, but not limited to carrier hikes, overnight/weekend camping and/or backpacking, 1+ hours from established town. Likely to stretch your comfort level but also offer opportunity to immerse yourself and your tiny human(s) into solid dirtbaggery.

Now that we have that out of the way, here’s my attempt at a personal ad:

TD BM seeking Type 2 and Type 3 adventure mom partners that want to carpe all the diem with their littles in tow. Ideal partners were likely dirtbags pre-baby and may be grasping at straws to hang onto their former selves and safely navigate incorporating their newly minted dirtbaguette into their old routine. You likely have some experience hiking, backpacking, or camping as a solo adult but may still be sorting out the how-to of adventure motherhood. Nonetheless, you have a strong desire to expose your kiddo to all things outdoors, give them valuable outdoor skills, improve their comfort level outdoors, and make priceless memories. If this sounds like you, let’s navigate being badass, dirtbag mommies and figure it out together!

I think I’m on to something here. We need a platform to match us with our ideal adventure mom partner(s). It seems like there are plenty of outlets that cater to the Type 1 category, but what about the rest of us? (And I’m not knocking you Type 1’ers out there. I enjoy a park play date as much as the next person, but damn if I don’t need to sleep in a tent and cook over a JetBoil sometimes.)

Well, if you’re a dirtbag mama in Colorado or Wyoming, join the new networking group on Facebook…Dirtbag Mamas. If you’re not in Colorado or Wyoming and would like to see a Dirtbag Mama group in your area, shoot me a message and let’s talk!

So, where my dirtbag mommas at?!
